there could be alot of reasons to why they did that but due to what my research stated there are only 3 main reasons and they are 1 british economic blockage of france,induction of thousand american seman and the british support of native american tribes along the great lakes frontier. the british and america always had a issue that had to be solve such as the violations of the u.s. maritime time. but in my thought of process their shouldn't have been a war i mean they was only fighting for their independence.

 but they thought that the rebels was not just going to hand it over so they had to start a full waging war for independence, for attention so they can have their say no matter if they would have to kill and injure people just to do so and they did. then, this war ended by the exchange of ratifications of the treaty of Ghent.
