2. They were usually born and raised in the nation and gained a sense of pride towards it. A certain amount of them even held hatred towards immigrants and people that opposed their government. They came together because many saw them as a threat to personal opinions that were different from the government's.

The idea is that some areas who have a higher population would always outweigh areas that have lower populations like California vs Montana. So to fix this they put in place the electoral college which allows areas with lower populations to have more say in voting processes. This is inherently undemocratic yet explains why a popular vote does not always matter.
