An independent variable is a variable that does not rely on the other. a dependent variable depends on the independent variable to change. as you change the independent, the dependent variable changes. also I believe pepsi or coke has the most caffeine

An independent variable is a variable that is changed only by the experimenter. A dependent variable however is the variable being tested and being changed by the independent variable. For example, if you're doing an experiment on what would happen if you gave a plant 1 liter of water everyday to a plant, the independent variable would be the water as it was changed on by the experimenter. And the dependent variable would be the plant since it is the one being experimented on and the one being affected by the independent variable.

I assume the next question is missing context but just in case, it would be the Pepsi One, but it’s discounted so it would be a Mountain Dew.

Part 1- Explain which traits would need to combine in order for a yellow cucumber and a green to make a green cucumber.
adelina 88 [10]

Part 1.

Answer:

Only the traits or allele for the green trait will be needed to make a green cucumber.

Explanation:

Here in the given example there are two allele responsible for the color of cucumber. One is Y which is dominant allele and codes for the yellow color.

While y is recessive allele and it will be code for the green color.

In case of heterozygous in which the genotype will be Yy but the phenotype will be always yellow because Y is dominant.

In case of genotype yy the phenotype will be green.

So for green cucumber there will be two y in the genotype.

Part 2.

Answer:

For yellow cucumber, there is need of only one dominant allele which codes for yellow.

Explanation:

According to the given punnet squre, There will be 4 genotypes from the breeding of a yellow cucumber and green cucumber.

The yellow cucumber is heterozygous or homozygous and its genotypes can be Yy and YY relatively.

But for green cucumber the genotype can only be homozygous which is yy.

In the punnet squre the 2 phenotype are yellow and green.

Hence for the yellow cucumber there is only need of one Y allele in genotype.

Which of the following typical adaptations of marine animals is not found in sea otters?
grandymaker [24]
Unlike fully aquatic marine mammals, or Cetacea, sea otters are bi-terrestrial and are capable of living on both land and in the water. Like all marine mammals, otters have webbing between their toes with acts like a flipper as well as a streamlined body to enable them to move quickly through the water. The only adaption that is not applicable to otters is d. breathing apparatus on the top of the head. Only marine mammals such as whales, dolphins, and porpoi have a blow hole on their dorsal side of their body. Another difference from Cetacea is an otter's thick fur. I believe the ratio for pelt density is one million lock of fur per square inch. Otter fur is also much longer compared to that of other marine mammals like pennipeds. Their long fur makes otters especially susceptible to oil and oilspills resulting from underwater oil mining accidents.

1. The cells in our bodies are surrounded by these types of solutions.
Ksenya-84 [330]

Answer:

1. The cells in our bodies are surrounded by these types of solutions. → Isotonic solution.

3. When an animal cell is places in this solution, it will burst (get layer) → Hypotonic solution.

4. When an animal cell is placed in this solution, it will shrivel or shrink (get smaller) → Hypertonic solution.

5. This is a solution with more solute than the cell. Hypertonic solution.

Explanation:

The cells in the body are in a balance of substances —concentration of solutes— between their cytoplasm and the extracellular space. This balance is dynamic in living beings, due to the constant exchange of ions and substances between the intracellular and extracellular space. For this reason, the extracellular medium is isotonic with the cytoplasm.

A cell can lose or gain water depending on the amount of solutes that a medium has in which it is found, with respect to the cytoplasm. This difference in solutes concentrations produces an osmotic gradient that drags water from the least concentrated solution to the most concentrated, through the process of osmosis, which seeks to achieve an equilibrium of concentrations.

 • When a animal cell is exposed to a hypertonic solution —with a higher concentration of solutes— it loses water and tends to dehydrate and become smaller.
 • An animal cell in a hypotonic solution receives water, so it can expand and even burst.

In practice, the concentrations of intracellular and extracellular solutes depend not only on the osmotic gradient, but also on the concentration gradient of substances.
