Which chemical would the nurse identify as being responsible for the occurrence of braxton hicks contraction s during the final
baherus [9]

Prostaglandins are responsible for the occurrence of Braxton hicks contractions during the final weeks of pregnancy.

Braxton hicks contractions are the pre-labor contractions and relaxation of the uterus. They make your uterus and cervix ready to expel the baby. They are often uncomfortable but less painful or not painful at all.

Many hormones like prostaglandins, oxytocin, relaxin, beta-endorphins, etc. Out of these, prostaglandins are responsible for inducing Braxton hicks contractions before birth to open your cervix and make it more receptive to a hormone called oxytocin. Oxytocin is essential for labor as it helps in contractions of the uterus during labor to expel the fetus and the placenta.

Braxton hicks contractions are not painful but can be uncomfortable. You may get out of this inconvenience by moving around, involving in physical activity, changing your position, laying down, or going for a walk.
