Let's start with classifications:

monomial: there's only one term, so not + or -

    examples: 7x^5  or  -9x

binomial: there are two terms, so only one + or one -

    examples: 7x^5 - 9x  or  -3x^2+1

trinomial: there are three terms

    examples: 7x^5 - 9x^4 + 3  or  -8p^3+2x^2-x

Now the degree of a term is the number of variables multplied on that term.

    example: 7x^3 is degee three, because7x^3 = 7\cdot x\cdot x\cdot x and there are three x's.

    example: -8x^2 really means -8\cdot x\cdot x, so that's degree 2.

Finally, the degree of a polynomial (which is what this is asking for) is the degree of the highest degree term.

    example: 7x^5 - 9x has a 5th degree term and 1st degree term, so this is a degree 5 polynomial, since that's the greatest.

Write the equation for the linear function. A={(x,y): (0,2)(-2,0)(-3,1)...}
Kay [80]

Answer:

y=x+2

Step-by-step explanation:

To find the equation of a line or linear function, you need at least two points that lie on the line. This is to find the slope or gradient of the line if it's not given. Let's use the two points (0,2) and (-2,0). The first coordinate in each point is X and the second is the y coordinate.

GRADIENT/SLOPE=[y1-y2]/[x1-x2]

=[2-0]/[0-2]=1

The equation of a linear function is given. by Y-y1=m(X-x1)

Y-2=1(X-0)

Y=X+2

VERIFICATION OF SOLUTION

You may want to verify whether you are right by substituting values of x to see if you can obtain corresponding y values.

Example: if x=0, y=0+2=2.This confirms first point

Angelica uses the point to represent the location of her house and uses the point to represent the location of a gas station. Ea
PilotLPTM [1.2K]
From the graph, angelica's house is represented by the point (4, 3) and the gas station is represented by the point (10, 8).

The distance between two given points in the xy-plane is given by
d= \sqrt{(x_2-x_1)^2+(y_2-y_1)^2}
where:
(x_1, y_1)=(4, 3) \ and \ (x_2, y_2)=(10, 8)

Thus
d= \sqrt{(10-4)^2+(8-3)^2}  \\ = \sqrt{6^2+5^2} = \sqrt{36+25} \\  = \sqrt{61} =7.81

Therefore, the distance of the gas station from Angelica's house is 7.81 miles.
