Kara and Kevin are siblings, and have decided to discuss the idea of allowance with their parents since all of their friends get

allowance for doing chores. Kara is only in elementary school, so she asks her mom if she can have $1 more dollar each day, starting with $3 on day 1. Kevin is in high school and wants to see if he can trick his little sister. Kevin asks for only $0.25 for the first day, but for his mom to double the amount of money he gets every day after that, so on day two he will get $0.50 and so on. Kara and Kevin’s mom agree to the terms. Kara laughs at Kevin because she thinks she will have way more money than him!

6. A prism has bases that are equilateral triangles with sides lengths of 10 inches and a length of 30 inches.
eimsori [14]

Answer:

The volume of the prism is 1,299\ in^{3}

Step-by-step explanation:

we know that

The volume of the prism is equal to

V=BL

where

B is the area of the triangular base

L is the length of the prism

we have

L=30\ in

<em>Find the area of the base B</em>

The area of a equilateral triangle is equal to

B=\frac{1}{2}(10)^{2} sin(60\°)

B=25\sqrt{3}\ in^{2}

substitute

V=(25\sqrt{3})(30)=1,299\ in^{3}

Answer:

  • sides: 12 feet
  • front: 28 feet

Step-by-step explanation:

Let x represent the length of one side of the yard. Then the width of the yard is 2x+4, and the perimeter is ...

  P = 2(L +W) . . . . . . . . . . formula for perimeter of a rectangle

  80 = 2(x + (2x+4)) . . . . . with values from the problem filled in

  40 = 3x +4 . . . . . . . . divide by 2, collect terms

  36 = 3x . . . . . . . . . subtract 4

  12 = x . . . . . . . . . divide by 3. This is the length of the side fence.

  2x +4 = 2(12) +4 = 28

The fence is 12 feet on the sides and 28 feet on the front. (Its total length is 52 feet.)
