Although the 2nd Red Scare went on to include high-profile trials of Hollywood figures, and blacklist of individuals in Hollywood associated with communism, the 2nd Red Scare was initially an investigation into communism's, and specifically the Soviet Union's, penetration into and influence on the US government, especially the State Department and other foreign intelligence services like the CIA.
