Answer:

Columbus was born in Genoa, Italy, in 1451. Little is known of his early life, but he worked as a seaman and then a sailing entrepreneur. He became obsessed with the possibility of pioneering a western sea route to Cathay (China), India, and the fabled gold and spice islands of Asia. At the time, Europeans knew no direct sea route to southern Asia, and the route via Egypt and the Red Sea was closed to Europeans by the Ottoman Empire, as were many land routes. Contrary to popular legend, educated Europeans of Columbus’ day did believe that the world was round, as argued by St. Isidore in the seventh century. However, Columbus, and most others, underestimated the world’s size, calculating that East Asia must lie approximately where North America sits on the globe (they did not yet know that the Pacific Ocean existed).

Why might native Americans living today be uncomfortable with Columbus Day as it has been celebrated through most of the 20th ce
DanielleElmas [232]

Answer:

Columbus was a horrible man that killed, enslaved, tortured and raped Natice Americans when they did nothing to him besides welcomed him onto their land with open arms. He forced his believes onto Native Americans and brought deadly diseases that killed the majority of the Native population. A day that is "celebrated" because he "found" America (although he didn't) despite the awful things he did would be upsetting knowing that person is the reason millions had died.

What makes the great barrier reef special?
Kryger [21]

The Great Barrier Reef is special because it is by far the largest reef in the world. It is consisted of around 2,900 individual reefs. The size of this reef is approximately as the size of Germany. There are over 900 islands that are stretched over 2,600 km along the the reef. The Great Barrier Reef is so marking and big, that even though it is below water it can actually be seen from space. The ecological importance of this reef is enormous as it is a home for thousands of species, with approximately 10% of all fish species in the world living in it. Because of its beauty and numerous attractions, the Great Barrier Reef is one of the most visited tourist destinations, and the Australian economy manages to generate between 5 and 6 billion Australian Dollars annually from it. Unfortunately, all of the human activity has been affecting this reef very negatively, and little by little part of it is dying out.
