The best way to solve these types of problems is to get better at reading algebraic expressions that are transcribed in English and translating them to actual expressions/equations.

When I hear "Two times the difference of t and 11" I immediately think the subtraction comes first then the multiplication because of word "the" after "Two times".

Answer for the first question:

2 * (t - 11)

"The product of a number and negative two" in the second question instantly shows one piece of the solution:

x * -2

It continues with, "is twelve". The word "is" is synonymous with "equals"

Full solution:

x * -2 = 12

The circumference of a circle is 22 cm.
valkas [14]

\bf \: Circumference \:  of  \: a \:  circle = 2\pi \: r

\implies22 = 2 \times  \dfrac{22}{7}  r

\implies22 =  \dfrac{44}{7}  \times r

\implies \: r =  \dfrac{22 \times 7}{44}

\implies \boxed{ r =  \dfrac{7}{2} }

Now,

\bf \: Area \:  of  \: circle = \pi {r}^{2}

\rightarrow \:  \frac{22}{7}   \times  ({ \frac{7}{2}) }^{2}

\rightarrow \frac{22}{ \cancel7}  \times  \frac{ \cancel{49}}{4}

\rightarrow \: 22 \times  \frac{7}{4}

\rightarrow \: 11 \times  \frac{7}{2}

\rightarrow \frac{77}{2}

\rightarrow \: 38.5 \: cm {}^{2}

Area of rectangle = 38.5 cm².

balandron [24]

Answer:

16

notice how a right triangle was formed, and the Pythagorean theorem could be used to solve this :

a^2 + b^2 = c^2

a^2 + 15^2 = 17^2

a^2 + 225 = 289

a^2 = 64

a= 8

multiply it by 2 to get the side of the base

8 * 2 = 16
