The unknown number is - 2.5

Let the number = n

The equation will be formed as follows;

  • eight times a number plus two = 8n + 2
  • Two times the quantity of eight times a number plus two = 2(8n + 2)
  • two times the same number minus seven = 2n - 7
  • three the quantity of two times the same number minus seven = 3(2n-7)

Our final equation becomes;

2(8n + 2) = 3(2n-7)

Simplify as follow, to determine the unknown number;

16n + 4 = 6n - 21

16n - 6n = -25

10n = -25

n = -2.5

Thus, the unknown number is - 2.5

Six balls are selected at random without replacement from an urn containing three white balls and five blue balls. find the prob
LenKa [72]
25/28 is the probability of picking two or three white balls. Given that there are only 8 balls in total and of those 8, 5 of them are blue, this problem can be turned around to "What's the probability of selecting 5 blue balls?" And then subtracting that result from 1. There are a total of 6 ways of selecting all 5 blue balls. The only difference is when the single white ball is selected. The 6 ways are BBBBBW, BBBBWB, ..., WBBBBB. So let's calculate the probability of each of those 6. 5/8 * 4/7 * 3/6 * 2/5 * 1/4 * 3/3 + 5/8 * 4/7 * 3/6 * 2/5 * 3/4 * 1/3 + 5/8 * 4/7 * 3/6 * 3/5 * 2/4 * 1/3 + 5/8 * 4/7 * 3/6 * 3/5 * 2/4 * 1/3 + 5/8 * 3/7 * 4/6 * 3/5 * 2/4 * 1/3 + 3/8 * 5/7 * 4/6 * 3/5 * 2/4 * 1/3 = ? If you look closely at each of the 6 lines, you'll realize that the numerator will always be the product of 5!3 and the denominator will be 3*4*5*6*7*8. So, let's simplify to 6*5!3/(3*4*5*6*7*8) = 6*5*4*3*2*3/(3*4*5*6*7*8) = 2*3/(7*8) = 3/(7*4) = 3/28 Now we just need to calculate 1 - 3/28 = 28/28 - 3/28 = 25/28

separate whole numbers and fractions: 9-5, 3/10 - 3/4

then you subtract the whole numbers: 4

after that (what i mostly use that is easy for me is cross multiplication/ Butterfly method)

12    -     30

3      -      3    =   -18  = -9

If I turned 9 on November 9th, 2015, exactly how old am I now? (Oct 16th, 2021)
inysia [295]

The answer to this is quite simple my friend.

So if you were 9, purely turning on November 9th of 2015 at a undisclosed time, you would've been born in November of 2006. Currently, now of October 16, 2021, you would be:

Add:

4 + 10 + 1 = 15

So you would be 15 years old.

Hope this helps, currently it's 10/17/2021 for me and 1:56 am (EST).

Have a nice morning, night, dusk etc.
