Portugese was inspired Spanish was inspired by italian which was inspired by ancient roman. French came off the tails of them and became its own thing. People who left spain and stay'd in portugal made portugese evolve away from spanish (spain). People from Italy/Roman Empire went to spain which evolved away from Italian.
