The reason why the government might use rationing is in certain circumstances where there isn't enough food, such as during times of war or crisis. Rationing could even be used during special events such as sport games or concerts. Rationing is unfair however, it is also very expensive to put into effect and it creates black markets. An example from the last 10 years of when rationing was done was during the time Hurricane Katrina hit. A lot of things were rationed such as food, water, and even oil. After Hurricane Katrina hit, the rationing lasted about a few more weeks after the hurricane was over
