From this map, we can see which states have forests, and what are the mining activities in those states. While some states like Oregon, Idaho, and Washington, don't have much mining going on and their forests are relatively safe, California and Montana can not say the same. California especially, has its forests endangered because of the oil reserves and the gold reserves it has. Both the oil and the gold are highly demanded and valuable, so the chances are that the forests will be put in second plan when it comes to extracting these natural resources, as they bring in lot of profit, while the forests will get cleared and destroyed.
