The claim in 'Blaxicans' by Richard Rodriguez is that a ethnic title such as Mexican, Chinese, etc, is purely a title given to by others and changes routinely; however, according to. Rodrigues, culture plays a bigger role on your own personal identity than ethnicity or race.

kykrilka [37]

Answer:

The best answer to the question: Clara chose this excerpt to help support her interpretation of "The Caged Bird" because it has an extended metaphor that examines:___, would be: suffering.

Explanation:

"I Sit and Look Out" is a poem that was written by Walt Whitman and which makes part of the larger collection Leaves of Grass, published in 1900. This text speaks about the sufferings that the speaker sees in the world, as he does nothing more than observe such misery. "The Caged Bird", on the other hand, is a poem that was written by Maya Angelou, and it describes the life of a caged bird, its sadness and misery, the suffering the caged animal goes through, in comparisson with its counterpart that lives free. In both cases, we see one common denominator, and that is suffering, on one side, the suffering of so many people, and in the second, the silent suffering of a small bird that lives in a cage. This is why Clara could use Walt Whitman´s poem, and especially an excerpt of it, to analyzse Maya Angelou´s own poem; because both are related by the topic of suffering.

Why do writers use appositives and appositive phrases in their writing?
Mnenie [13.5K]
Appositives help with description. Appositives consist of nouns, or noun phrases, that help to define the term they are used with. For example, in the sentence "John, the barber, cut the Mayor's hair today," the appositive is "the barber." It helps the sentence make sense by defining John's role. If you did not know John was a barber, you would probably be very confused as to why he is cutting the Mayor's hair! It also helps you specify different terms that can be applied generally. For example, if you just say, "The tree  is beautiful," you are not really creating an adequate picture in your reader's mind. If you say, "The tree, a weeping willow, is beautiful." Here, your appositive, "a weeping willow," gives your reader more information and paints a clearer picture for them. Hope this helps! :)
