Can someone write me an objective summary of chapter 1 of farewell to Manzanar? 5-7 sentences, please.
weeeeeb [17]

Answer:

The Wakatsuki's family fishing boat is going out to sea. All of a sudden, it turns around and comes back to the island. They hear that Pearl Harbor has been bombed. Papa decides to burn the Japanese flag and any papers that he has that connects him with Japan. He is then arrested for allegedly delivering oil to Japanese submarines. He is gone for a year.

Explanation:

This is about prewar American life and it foreshadows the suddenness of the attack on Pearl Harbor and how the US entered into WW2. The father is living a life like the "american dream". Something interesting that this story points out is how so many americans were not even familiar with Pearl Harbor before it was bombed. Papa is accused of spying and betrayal again his country.

How does a writer effectively express an idea about a topic?
Marina86 [1]

Answer:

The topic sentence expresses the main idea of the paragraph combined with the writer’s attitude or opinion about the topic. Good topic sentences contain both a main idea and a controlling idea, are clear and easy to follow, use engaging vocabulary, and provide an accurate indication of what will follow in the rest of the paragraph.
