What is the ph of a buffer consisting of 0.200 m hc2h3o2 and 0.200 m kc2h3o2? the k a for hc2h3o2 is 1.8×10−5. view available hi
AURORKA [14]
PH = pKa + log \frac{[base]}{[Acid]}
Acid is HC₂H₃O₂ and conjugate base is KC₂H₃O₂,
pKa = - log Ka = - log (1.8 x 10⁻⁵) = 4.74
so pH = 4.74 + log (0.2/0.2) = 4.74
This is called maximum buffer capacity (when acid conc. and base conc. are equal) the pH = pKa in this case

What is the measure of force per unit area.
Brut [27]

Pressure

Explanation:

Pressure is a measure of force per unit area.

Pressure is defined as the force exerted on a body across a unit area. The unit of pressure is N/m² or Pascal.

                Pressure = \frac{Force}{Area}

The more the force acting on a body the more the pressure felt. A small surface area and a large force increases pressure on a body.

it is right to say that pressure is proportional to force but inversely proportional to area.

What is the pH of 0.26 M ammonium ion? NH4+(aq) + H2O(1) NH3(aq) + H30* (aq) a. 4.33 b.9.25 c. 3.87 d. 4.92 e. 4.75
choli [55]

Answer:

b) pH = 9.25

Explanation:

  • NH4+(aq)  +  H2O(l)  ↔  NH3(aq)  +  H3O+(aq)
  • NH3 + H2O ↔ NH4+  +  OH-
  • 2 H2O ↔ H3O+  +  OH-

⇒ Kb = [ NH4+ ] * [ OH- ] / [ NH3 ] = 1.86 E-5......from literature

mass balance NH4+:

⇒ M NH4+ = [ NH4+ ] - [ OH- ]

∴ [ NH3 ] ≅ M NH4+ = 0.26 M

⇒ Kb = (( 0.26 + [ OH- ] )) * [ OH- ] / 0.26 = 1.86 E-5

⇒ 0.26 [ OH-] + [ OH- ]² = 4.836 E-6

⇒ [ OH- ]² + 0.26 [ OH- ] - 4.836 E-6 = 0

⇒ [ OH- ] = 1.859 E-5 M

⇒ pOH = - Log ( 1.859 E-5 )

⇒ pOH = 4.7305

⇒ pH = 14 - pOH = 9.269

For the reaction, calculate how many moles of the product form when 0.016mol of O2 completely reacts. . Assume that there is mor
Oksi-84 [34.3K]
The balanced reaction is given as:

2Ca(s)+O2(g)→2CaO(s)

We are given the amount of oxygen gas to be used for the reaction. This will be the starting point of our calculations.

0.016 mol O2 ( 2 mol CaO / 1 mol O2 ) = 0.032 mol CaO

Therefore, for the reaction, the amount of calcium oxide produced is 0.032 moles.
