Another reason is when people finish school, they may just want to go home and catch up on missed sleep that has been caused by the previous nights homework or getting up really early. If students receive homework from their teachers every night then the lack of sleep or lack of time for chilling out could cause some to lack attention and others could struggle to keep their heads off the desk. Also if homework was optional then the students who are struggling could do it in their own time as practice without worrying about the next nights homework.
