The basic idea behind psychosexual development is that:

  • <u>The first few years of a child's life are important to develop his sexual behavior</u>

Psychosexual development is the theory or belief that the parents have a major role to play in order to assist their children in their early sexual development.

This theory is considered important because it helps the cognitive formation of the child during his first three years which  shape the kind of behavior he would exhibit sexually because it would also affect his other behaviors.

This was propounded by Sigmund Freud , a foremost psychologist that helped shaped the face of psychology, psychoanalysis and psychosexual development.
