As a result of a change in the sequence of nucleotides in a strand of DNA (Deoxyribonucleic acid), the amino acids also change in the final protein which leads to protein malfunction. If insulin does not work correctly, it may not be able to bind to the insulin receptor. Hope this helps! <3
