In 1919, future president Dwight D. Eisenhower drove in a military motor convoy all across the nation, from Washington D.C. to California. This long and hard road over the Lincoln Highway (one of the first-ever built back in 1912.) took 62 days in total.

With the memory of this in mind, Eisenhower later was inspired to make a quality highway system in the U.S.

According to google, "Russia had an autocratic government prior to the Russian Revolution, being ruled by one person, Tsar Nicholas II. It did have an elected body called the Duma, which was instituted after a small revolution in 1905 by Tsar Nicholas II, however it had virtually no power to make laws that the Tsar had to honor."
