His daughters wanted to get settled in American society and get assimilate in it, go to the malls, movies in bright daylight, but he and his wife wanted to hold their Dominican culture which creates the conflict between them. Both the parents was not good in accent language and not updating their lifestyle according to American society on the other hand their daughters were good in accent and writing and in identifying themselves according to new culture. When the narrator wrote the speech for her teachers day and read it to her family, her father did not like the speech. It was disrespectful according to him because he was not good in language, and he had no understanding of phrases this was also one of the main conflict between them due to their cultural background.
