A topicsentence is the sentence that presents the main idea that is discussed in the passage. The topic sentence tells us what it is that the author wants to prove, and allows us to be prepared before we continue reading a text. If a topic sentence needs to be developed into a paragraph, a useful way of doing so is by providing examples. This will allow the reader to better understand the topic while giving the author a chance to better clarify his purpose.
