The term Critical Period, coined by John Fiske (philosopher) in 1888 with his book 'The Critical Period of American History', refers to the 1780s, a time right after the American Revolution where the future of the newly formed nation was in the balance. More specifically, the "Critical Period" refers to the period of time following the end of the American Revolutionary War in 1783 to the inauguration of George Washington as President in 1789. During this time, the newly independent former colonies were beset with a wide array of foreign and domestic problems. Some historians believe it was a bleak, terrible time for Americans, while others believe the term “Critical Period” is exaggerated, and that, while the 1780s were a time of dispute and change, they were also a time of economic growth and political maturation

attashe74 [19]

Answer:

Option: The reform movement eliminated a major source of perceived corruption.

Explanation:

Martin Luther began a religious movement which led him to form the Protestant Reformation. He broke the link between the Catholic church and formed a new religion after seeing the corruption in it. The Catholic Church indulged in illegal means to acquire money from the people by selling "indulgences" to obtain salvation. Luther believed that the individual has to control whatever happens in life.

How did scientific rationalism affect European religion and politics
Kryger [21]
Overall, scientific rationalism harmed European religion because educated European people began to question the beliefs of the Catholic Church rather than just accepting centuries-old ideals, undermining certain fundamental beliefs of the Church and slightly decreasing its reputation. In terms of politics, scientific rationalism began the inquiry into individual thought, causing many governmental policies to be seen as flawed and, later on, sparking revolutions.
