Add and subtract the values. Express your answer in scientific notation.

Answer:

8.83 x 10-3

Step-by-step explanation:

Your calculator can do this for you. Your scientific or graphing calculator can be set to display the answer in scientific notation, if you need that. Any spreadsheet can do this, too.

The formula for a spreadsheet would be -8.65e-3+2.7e-4-9e-5.

If you want to do it "by hand", you can factor out 10-3 to get ...

8.65×10-³ +2.7×10-4 -9x10-5 (8.65 +0.27

=

-0.09)x10-³ = 8.83×10-³

Additional comment

Since the values after the first have more negative exponents, those numbers will affect digits farther right than the decimal point in the first number. (You can see this in the sum shown above.) Simply by estimating, you can determine that the answer will be slightly more than 8.6×10-³, but not as much as 9.01×10-³.

Answer:

 8.83 × 10⁻³

Step-by-step explanation:

Your calculator can do this for you. Your scientific or graphing calculator can be set to display the answer in scientific notation, if you need that. Any spreadsheet can do this, too.

The formula for a spreadsheet would be =8.65e-3+2.7e-4-9e-5.

__

If you want to do it "by hand", you can factor out 10⁻³ to get ...

 8.65×10⁻³ +2.7×10⁻⁴ -9×10⁻⁵ = (8.65 +0.27 -0.09)×10⁻³ = 8.83×10⁻³

__

Additional comment

Since the values after the first have more negative exponents, those numbers will affect digits farther right than the decimal point in the first number. (You can see this in the sum shown above.) Simply by estimating, you can determine that the answer will be slightly more than 8.6×10⁻³, but not as much as 9.01×10⁻³.

Describe how to construct a sequence of nested intervals that have precisely the number √2 in common. There are many possible wa
iris [78.8K]

Answer:

See answer below

Step-by-step explanation:

Define the intervals:

I_n:=(\sqrt{2}-\frac{1}{n},\sqrt{2}+1/n) for n≥1.

The intervals are nested, in the sense that I_1\supset I_2\supset I_3 \supset \cdots To see this, use the fact that for all n≥1, -1/n≤-1/(n+1) and 1/n≥1/(n+1) (intuitively, the intervals are "shrinking" in size, and are centered around √2).

The only point common to all intervals is √2, in the sense that \bigcap_{n\geq 1}I_n=\{2\}

The idea for this construction is to center the intervals around √2 and shrink their size with the summand 1/n. As n goes to infinity, 1/n tends to zero and the intervals became closer and closer to √2, but they NEVER degenerate to the point √2, in contrast to their intersection.

Alvin and Bala has 26 stickers.Alvin had 8 more stickers thab Bala.How many stickers did Bala have?
Brilliant_brown [7]
Bala had 9 stickers

You could set this up as a equation. Because there was a total of 26 you would for sure put =26. Next you are told Alvin has 8 MORE than Bali, therefore you would be adding the unknown value of Bala by 8. This could be represented as x+8=26. Now that you have x added to 8 you need to add another x to the equation to fully represent the problem since Alvin has 8 more stickers than Bala does. The new equation would become 2x+8=26.

You must now isolate x by first subtraction 8 from both sides which will leave you with 2x=18. Then you divide on both sides by 2 and will leave you with x=9

(6,5) because all of the numbers in the (x) spot have to be different to make it a function. The numbers in the (y) spot can be the same, just not the numbers in the (x) spot
