If you shine a soft light on someone's face you are more than likely to remove the shadows that were originally there because light casts away shadows due to light orientation.

Explanation:

When shining a light upon a face you are not going to take away tone discrepancy.

Facial features would not be taken away due to light in fact they would be more visible.

Interpretation would not be taken away when shining a light on a face either because it would make interpretation much easier due to the light.
