I am writing an essay for 8th grade about slavery and this is there any way I can make this more formal, or add more detail, or

just make it better in any way? (I will give brainliest) Frederick Douglass was a slave himself and thought that slavery should be banned and was morally wrong while Captain Canot was fine with it and, in fact, supported it. Frederick, being a slave helped with the reason he was against it. But, there are many other reasons why he thought it was wrong. One other reason he thought slavery was wrong was that Frederick saw children's mothers and children being slaves while usually the father would be white and the slave owner, this also brought domestic violence. If the mothers or children would not listen. They would be whipped, beaten, and sometimes even killed. They were killed because they were seen as "expendables" as white slave owners could just buy more because most of the slave owners who owned slaves were usually rich and could afford to buy more at a slave auction. Frederick, also based his views on how he was taught and his education. He also knew that inequality and slavery were always hateful and bad, in the first place. Captain Canot, on the other hand, was born into a white family and was white himself and was always taught being a slave was not wrong and that everyone should own slaves, this is a reason why he believed it was ok to own slaves (seeing a pattern?). He then joined the military giving him the name "Captain." Which was a mastery of all men, to complement this he owned slaves himself. Captain Canot never experienced what being a slave was and what having no rights at all felt like. So of course, having no experience Captain Canot thought slavery was good. Both of these historical characters thought very differently, but for all the same reasons, experience.

Once being a slave himself, Frederick Douglass, believed that slavery was morally incorrect, and should be prohibited. Sadly, Captain Canot, being a slave trader, was not against it. He made good money off it, so he saw it as normal, and acceptable. As Frederick had experienced slavery and suffered through the cruelty of it, it gave him a strong reason for being an abolitionist. He saw the actions of slave owners, black women and children would be worked harsh hours, and if showed sign of defiance, they would be whipped, neaten and occasionally killed. Slave owners saw their slaves as expendables, a tool that can just be thrown away. Thinking, since they were wealthy, they could just buy another to replace the old slaves. Fredrick also based his views on his previous education, He understood that inequality and slavery were despicable, especially as an African American. On the other hand, Canot was raised in a wealthy white family, and his family most likely had slaves, so he saw slavery not to be an issue. Captain Canot got his Captain title by joining the military, and working his way up the ranks. With his title of Captain, he was awarded slaves. As to being privileged, Canot never experienced what being a slave was like. The cruelty, not being given freedom, being overworked, treated like you weren't a person, but rather a tool, whereas, Fredrick had experienced these conditions. Both these historical figures, thought in opposition, but for the same reasons, played a giant role in history.

My version is only an idea, your idea is amazing, I am only showing you an option to higher writing :)

Desperate, please hurry
Why is Columbine important?
artcher [175]

Answer:

The Columbine effect is the legacy and impact of the 1999 Columbine High School massacre. The shooting has inspired numerous copycat crimes, with many killers taking their inspiration from Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, by describing the two perpetrators as being martyrs. The shooting has also had a significant impact on popular culture.

Background:

On April 20, 1999, Columbine High School seniors, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, murdered 12 students and one teacher then injured 24 others. Around 50 minutes after the shooting began, Harris and Klebold took their own lives in the library, where the majority of their victims died.[1] It was at the time, the deadliest shooting at a high school in American history.[2] The shooting was the most covered news story of 1999, and third most followed by the American public of the entire decade.[3]

Effects on schools:

Following the Columbine shooting, schools across the United States instituted new security measures such as transparent backpacks, metal detectors, school uniforms, and security guards. Some schools implemented the numbering of school doors to improve public safety response. Several schools throughout the country resorted to requiring students to wear computer-generated IDs.[4]

Schools also adopted a zero tolerance approach to possession of weapons and threatening behavior by students.[5] Despite the effort, several social science experts feel the zero tolerance approach adopted in schools has been implemented too harshly, with unintended consequences creating other problems.[6] Despite the safety measures that were implemented in the wake of the tragedy at Columbine, school shootings continued to take place in the United States at an alarming rate. Virginia Tech, Sandy Hook, and Stoneman Douglas were three subsequent school shootings that far surpassed the casualties of the 1999 massacre, subsequently raising concern of gun violence in the United States.

Police tactics:

Police departments reassessed their tactics and since then train for Columbine-like situations after criticism over the slow response and progress of the SWAT teams during the shooting.[7][8] Sheriff Stone did not seek reelection.

Police followed a traditional tactic at Columbine: surround the building, set up a perimeter, and contain the damage. That approach has been replaced by a tactic known as the Immediate Action Rapid Deployment tactic. This tactic calls for a four-person team to advance into the site of any ongoing shooting, optimally a diamond-shaped wedge, but even with just a single officer if more are not available. Police officers using this tactic are trained to move toward the sound of gunfire and neutralize the shooter as quickly as possible.[9] Their goal is to stop the shooter at all costs; they are to walk past wounded victims, as the aim is to prevent the shooter from killing or wounding more. Dave Cullen has stated: "The active protocol has proved successful at numerous shootings...At Virginia Tech alone, it probably saved dozens of lives."[10]
