“The Sniper” begins just before dawn in Dublin, Ireland, during the Irish Civil War. A Republic sniper sits on a roof and lights a cigarette despite knowing that the flash of his lighter might tip off his enemy. It does, and an enemy sniper, a Free Stater, sends a bullet flying overhead. The soldeirs then start shooting all over.
Because during the Romantic period poetry was extremely strong and powerful, it held not only love and romance but words of sympathy and distress. Poetry was about everything, while people were still cautious of how they said things it didn't stop them from saying them. Poetry shows emotion in a way that some writing can't, not only for the dramatization that can come from it but from the way that the stanza's are created and the way that most people are capable of resonating with a poem that is similar to a situation that they are facing in their own lives.
