President Wilson wanted to free the nation from monopolies. To do so, he made some financial reforms. One of which included trustbusting. Trusts  controlled politics and made it difficult for small businesses to compete. The Federal Trade Commission Act and Clayton Antitrust Act protected consumers from fraud, safeguarded fair competition, and, most importantly, enforced antitrust laws.
