During the embryonic period, the embryo develops according to the proximodistal principle, which means that the embryo develops the center of the body before other parts are developed.

The embryo which undergo various degree of development in the womb. The embryo begins in the center of the body which houses a lot of important organs such as the heart , liver, kidney etc.

These organs require a very well defined and special development which is why development starts from this part.

The trunk of the body such as the hand and legs are developed after the center parts of the embryo is developed.
