If you salivate at the smell of cake but not when you perceive the smell of a dirty diaper, this is an example of what is called stimulus discrimination.

Stimulus discrimination can be described as a process where by a person would react to a stimulus in a situation but would not respond to another type of similar stimuli.

In this case the sense of smell is involved. The person responds well to a  sweet of cake but when the person is hit with the smell from a diaper he does not respond well to it.
