There are 5 quarters and 3 dimes.

Let's illustrate it as  $\frac{5}{3}$

Now adding 5 quarters and 5 dimes, we get  $\frac{10}{8}$.

5/3 is not equal to 10/8 hence it no longers has the ratio of 5:3 but now has the ratio of 5:4
