Although British colonial rule tended to bequeath a positive democratic inheritance at independence, this legacy has diminished over time. Former British colonies were dramatically more democratic than other ex-colonies immediately following independence.

The colonies along the eastern coast of North America were formed under different types of charter, but most developed representative democratic governments to rule their territories.

The colonies were doing Mccratic and a sunset they had a representative government some freedom of religion written constitutions and separation of powers.
