A subject is a topic of the particular work in literature. The subject is the major topic that is expanded by the pages of a literary work.

EXPLANATION:

People usually get clouded when they have to distinguish between themes and topics in literary works. Both of these terms are the same but are actually different. While the subject is the topic of a certain work, themes are ideas or opinions expressed by the subject. The subject can be an abstract idea or concept that works as the basis of a literary work. This is the basis of the events that makes up the characters in the story. Therefore, a theme exists in the subject because it reveals the writer's interpretation or understanding of the selected subject.

For instance, a writer selects "war" as the topic of the novel. Then, this writer selects "war is blasphemy for citizens in an area" as the theme of the novel. "War", as a subject, is a wide notion of literary work. This gives an idea of what will be told or discussed in the novel. The theme "war is blasphemy for citizens in an area" is a more precise discussion about novels. The theme provides a special topic about literary works.
