While reading the speech, it is possible for a reader to lose track of the tone and miss the emphasis of the message. For example, in the speech from the video, Churchill raises his voice while speaking about Hitler to emphasize the horrors of the dictator’s tyranny. He uses pauses between sentences to give listeners time to recollect the devastation he refers to. Also, his tone indicates that he is speaking from the heart, which makes it easier for the listeners to connect with his feelings.

Reading the words of the speech can be helpful for readers who are not used to the speaker’s accent or his use of colloquial terms.
