Answer:

antibodies

Explanation:

Lymphocytes defend the human body from any foreign element (known as antigen) by producing antibodies. Each lymphocyte, also known as B cell produce specific antibody.

A lymphocyte gives rise to plasma cell which acts like a factory of antibodies.

There are two type of lymphocytes which act against the antigens in following ways –

B lymphocytes – they kill antigens by producing antibodies

T lymphocytes – They act against the antigen in two ways a) by producing  lymphokines which signal other cells and b) directly destroy targeted cells on direct contact.

Through my research I found matching questions with similar answers:

A) macrophages
B) antigens
C) antibodies
D) lymph

The best answer to fill in the blank would be the third option C) Antibodies which in the name anti means against, so since the word anti is the same as against, its a battle between antibodies and invaders, so that's why its C).

Why or how are calories "wasted" during gluconeogenesis?
ira [324]

luconeogenesis is a ubiquitous process, present in plants, animals, fungi, bacteria, and other microorganisms.[2] In vertebrates, gluconeogenesis takes place mainly in the liver and, to a lesser extent, in the cortex of the kidneys. In ruminants, this tends to be a continuous process.[3] In many other animals, the process occurs during periods of fasting, starvation, low-carbohydrate diets, or intense exercise. The process is highly endergonic until it is coupled to the hydrolysis of ATP or GTP, effectively making the process exergonic. For example, the pathway leading from pyruvate to glucose-6-phosphate requires 4 molecules of ATP and 2 molecules of GTP to proceed spontaneously. Gluconeogenesis is often associated with ketosis. Gluconeogenesis is also a target of therapy for type 2 diabetes, such as the antidiabetic drug, metformin, which inhibits glucose formation and stimulates glucose uptake by cells.[4] In ruminants, because dietary carbohydrates tend to be metabolized by rumen organisms, gluconeogenesis occurs regardless of fasting, low-carbohydrate diets, exercise, etc.[5]

The absence of which of these will not affect photosynthesis is - oxygen, Carbon dioxide, water, Chlorophyll, light. Give reason
In-s [12.5K]

Answer:

Oxygen

Explanation:

Oxygen is the by product of photolysis during photosynthesis whereby water molecules are split to form protons (H+ ions), electrons and oxygen (by product).

Oxygen is not needed during any of the reactions in photosynthesis and Calvin cycle and will not affect the rate of photosynthesis or possibility of photosynthesis occurring. However, it will affect the process of aerobic respiration instead.

Carbon dioxide is needed in carbon fixation during the Calvin cycle. Without it, 6 carbon sugars cannot be formed.

Water is needed for photolysis to produce protons (maintain the electrochemical gradient) and electrons (to replenish lost electrons)

Chlorophyll are pigments that harvest light energy to excite electrons produced from photolysis of water to be passed down the electron transport chain.

Light is needed as a source of energy to energise the electrons

Monosaccharides from polymers through the formation of ———— bonds
Alex_Xolod [135]
Cells build carbohydrate polymers by using energy to form glycosidic linkages, the bonds betweenmonosaccharides. A dehydration synthesis reaction forms a bondbetween carbon atoms in twomonosaccharides, sandwiching an oxygen atom between them and releasing a water molecule.
