Answer: D. Slaves would be counted as three-fifths of a person when

determining representation in Congress.

Explanation:

The three-fifths compromise represents one of the most atrocious acts in the history of the United States.  When attempting to determine representation in congress, the Confederate States, whose populations consisted largely of slaves, appealed that they should have disproportionate amounts of representation, despite the fact that slaves would not be granted citizenship.

Hope it helps :) and let me know if you want me to elaborate.

1. Why were the northern Italian city states so wealthy during the Renaissance?
Svetlanka [38]

During the period of the Renaissance, Italy was divided into numerous small city-states controlled by local wealthy people. There were large differences though from one city-state to another, and while the northern ones were very wealthy and had things going very smoothly, the southern ones were much less successful.

The reason why the northern Italian city-states were so wealthy was mostly the trade. These city-states had excellent large ports. They were producing multiple things that were in high demand and also very well paid for for export, and were getting lot of things they needed and desired from the other parts of the world.

These states had very well developed fleets, and they were trading with multiple Asian regions, Europe, as well as parts of Africa. They were exporting their high quality products. Very often they were buying certain things from one place, then re-sell it in other place buy much higher prices, thus getting more and more wealth over time. That wealth enabled them to get all they needed without any problem, thus making them very stable and strong small states.

Baron de Montesquieu believed that a separation
LenKa [72]

(1) prevent tyranny by acting as a check on power

Branches of government ensures that no one person takes total control of the government. Each branch also has specific responsibilities giving each authority in the government.

Montesquieu was an Enlightenment thinker who believed a government would fall to tyranny when the government or ruler had no one to answer to. By creating a system of branched government, the ruler(s) have a check on their power and have to answer to another body of the government. This system was used in the US under the Constitution by creating three branches of power: executive, legislative, and judicial.

The Black Death of 1348 to 1350
Citation: C N Trueman "The Black Death Of 1348 To 1350"
historylearningsite.co.uk. The History Learning Site, 5 Mar 2015. 19 Apr 2018.

In Medieval England, the Black Death was to kill 1.5 million people out of an estimated total of 4 million people between 1348 and 1350. No medical knowledge existed in Medieval England to cope with the disease. After 1350, it was to strike England another six times by the end of the century. Understandably, peasants were terrified at the news that the Black Death might be approaching their village or town.
The Black Death is the name given to a deadly plague (often called bubonic plague, but is more likely to be pneumonic plague) which was rampant during the Fourteenth Century. It was believed to have arrived from Asia in late 1348 and caused more than one epidemic in that century – though its impact on English society from 1348 to 1350 was terrible. No amount of medical knowledge could help England when the plague struck. It was also to have a major impact on England’s social structure which lead to the Peasants Revolt of 1381.
