Religion was very important to the Ancient Egyptians. Their religion was strongly influenced by tradition, which caused them to resist change. Due to their beliefs, the Pharaoh held an immense amount of power. In addition, the priests in Ancient Egypt were also very powerful. Ancient Egyptians believed in many gods who performed a variety of specific functions.
The gods of ancient Egypt were seen as the lords of creation and custodians of order but also as familiar friends who were interested in helping and guiding the people of the land. The gods had created order out of chaos and given the people the most beautiful land on earth. The significance of Egyptian mythology to other cultures was in its development of the concept of an eternal life after death. When the Greeks and the Romans conquered Egypt, their religion was influenced by that of Egypt.
