The Mexican did maintained their stance when it comes to slavery. The Mexico's position on slavery immediately prior to the Texas Revolution was that they abolished slavery (sales of slaves) in 1829.

Pruor to Texas revolution, In 1823, the Mexican government forbade the sale or purchase of slaves and they henceforth required the children of slaves to be freed when they reached the age of fourteen.

The stopping of slavery was a major cause of the Mexican Independence movement, so therefore, the Mexican government adopted a number of laws to against slaveholding
