How did Hitler react when Jesse Owens won the 100 meter race?
Naddik [55]

Hitler left the stadium before the medals were awarded. The 100 meter race was the first of Owens' four medals. It shocked Hitler: his Aryan supremacy myth was in tatters. The only thing worse that could have happened was a Jew winning that first race. He likely didn't want to shake Owens' hand.

Actually Owens was not scheduled to race in the 400 meter relay. It came about only because the American Olympic Committee didn't want to cause an international uproar by allowing 2 Jews to run in the 400. So they replaced both with Owens and Metcalf (who took home a slug of metals himself).

I'm not sure if it is still on Netflix, but a docudrama of the event was made called RACE.

What factors led to the overwhelmingly high mortality rate among the early jamestown colonists
liraira [26]
Lack of incentive - The lack of incentive among the colonists to complete important tasks led to the tasks not getting done. Many settlers were "gentlemanly" - Since most of the settlers considered themselves "gentlemanly", they considered the hard work of a settler "beneath" them and consequently did not get most of the basic things needed to survive done.
Expectations of finding gold - The expectations of finding gold (and mining it) led to people neglecting things such as gathering food, setting up shelter, etc. Location - The location that the settlers chose to settle in at was great for defending against naval incursions but terrible for living conditions. Bad Relations with Natives- The relations with the local Native Americans(which were all mistakenly grouped up into the Powhatan Indians) were not as good as they could be; if they had had a better relationship they could have traded for food and/or shelter which could have led to lower mortality rates

What was the ultimate goal of the United States in the 1914 mexican intervention?
Cerrena [4.2K]

The ultimate goal of the United States in their intervention in Mexico in 1914 was to have a neighbor that is stable, that they will be able to influence and control to a certain level, and protect their economic and political interest.

The intervention of the United States was a very variable and very controversial. They did not stick with one side to support, but instead they were changing sides, usually supporting the person in power, except when the French intervened too.

Also, the USA openly threatened Mexico that it will use military power in order to protect its interests and its citizens that own businesses and property in the country.
