In dystopia or not utopia, you might find polluted lakes and rivers.
Likurg_2 [28]
Generally speaking, that is correct.  A dystopia is the opposite of a utopia, and is a place which we define as unpleasant or bad.  Therefore, what you might find in a dystopia is what you would consider as being unpleasant or bad.  Hence, if you think polluted lakes and rivers are unpleasant, then they are likely to be part of a dystopia "for you".  However, each person's dystopia may be different, as it depends on personal preference, or in this case, personal disgust.

What is the chief claim of "What to the Slave is the Fourth of July?”
krok68 [10]

The correct option is <em><u>A. African Americans deserve equal treatment and status in American society.</u></em>

Further Explanation:

On July 5, 1852,  Fredrick Douglas gave one of the famous speech "What to the Slave Is the Fourth of July?" The fourth of July is the day of freedom for the people of America. In the speech, Douglas comments on the celebration of the day and says that to celebrate such a day is very ironical. He says that the celebration of freedom which the people are celebrating is in reality still under slavery. He had used rhetorical questions to ask the people whether they are in reality a free citizen to celebrate such a day. He reminds the people of the unjust treatment they are exposed to in their own country. Behind their celebration, they are forced to lead the life of a slave with an absence of freedom to them. He adds that the celebration of the fourth of July is like a mockery against the African Americans. In reality, the celebration is a way of veiling the cruelty which the people experience in reality. The speech is meant to bring a change among the thoughts of the people and the American government. He urges the people to be together to bring an end to such a horrific present. His request to the African Americans is to see the real face of the government and to work to repair the damages.

What finally provides the narrator with the inspiration to get past her writer's block and write her speech?
BARSIC [14]

Answer:

The poetry of Walt Whitman celebrating himself provided the narrator with the inspiration to overcome her writer's block and write her speech.

Explanation:

<u>Writer's block is when a person is not able to produce any work or write anything new and the mind went blank</u>. This happens mainly due to the <u>inability of the writer to create creative content </u>or have creative ideas or even <u>health or personal issues, or in this case, the language and cultural background of the writer.</u>

Ju lia Alvarez's "Daughter of Invention" revolves around the story of a young girl from the Dominican Republic and her life in America. Coming from another country, and feeling insecure and inferior with the feeling of indebtedness to the American lifestyle, she felt unable to express herself properly, along with her inability to grasp the English language and speak so fluently. So, when she had to give a speech on Teacher's Day and was looking for ways to make her speech, she found it hard to even start writing anything for the speech. But going through the poetry of Walt Whitman,  she got inspired by the words that the poet used, <em>"I celebrate myself and sing myself"</em>, <em>"He most honors my style who learns under it to destroy the teacher"</em> etc. It was unlike the teachings that she'd learned in her school under the nuns, where they were taught to be 'meek', 'giving' etc. Whitman's poem is a celebration of himself and provides a <em>"boastful"</em> appreciation of his own personality, which the girl's father thinks<em> "shows no gratitude"</em>.

But<u> it was this writer that provides the inspiration to get past her writer's block and write her speech.</u>

What message is George Orwell sending in Animal Farm and how does he use satire to convey this message to his audience?
HACTEHA [7]

Answer:

George Orwell is comparing the farm animals to the Soviet Union. He is trying to convey the idea of power and the demoralization that comes along with it. He communicates irony with the readers through the animals being 'punished' for being power hungry. The animals end up mistreating each other, due to their infatuation for authority. Satire is used to show the selfishness of the animals. The power makes them hypocrites for using the same punishments that they hated when they were used against themselves. Irony is shown through the denseness of the society they live in. The readers know a lot more about what is happening in the story, than the characters do.
