Zenger was a German immigrant who printed a publication called "The New York Weekly Journal". This publication pointed out the actions of the corrupt royal government. It accused the government of rigging election. Zenger was arrested for libel and hauled into jail. But with his lawyer Andrew Hamilton and the jury, he was found not guilty. Now newspaper publishers felt free to print their honest reviews.
