In the early 1990s, Czechoslovakia into two different countries: the Czech Republic and Slovakia. People form the region called it the Velvet Divorce. This name was given because the split was peaceful and amicable. With the disintegration of the Soviet Union, the end of Communism in many countries of the region, and the aspiration of democracy, Czechs and Slovaks had many differences. The amicable Velvet Divorce was the best resolution for them.
