The Vietnam War was fought between South Vietnam and North Vietnam. The U.S. aided South Vietnam while North Vietnam was aided by the communist Soviet Union. The war was at a stalemate for awhile even with the help of the U.S. on the South's side. The U.S. left the war due to public discontent. Two years later North Vietnam conquered South Vietnam, and they became a united nation again.
