Why do you think people get tattoos or body piercings?

A big factor is that it can look cool to other people and it can make a huge part of their identity, like what groups they are a part of or show something they think is important. Some people will get tattoos and piercings as a form of showing that they're rebellious, or even just choosing to get it impulsively for something like when they're drunk or in grief.

What effects do tattoos and body piercings have on the body?

Some people can have allergic reactions to the ink from tattoos, there can be rashes that form where the tattoo was given, and sometimes ink can get through your skin and into other parts of your body. Body piercings can lead to scars, bloodborne diseases, overgrowth of tissues and exposed open skin can get infected.
