Proto oncogene are normal genes which are involved in cell growth and proliferation while the oncogenes are genes which have the potential to become cancerous. During cell division, proto oncogenes are strictly regulated, the cell division proceed appropriately and the division is terminated when the cell division is over. The cell division of the oncogenes on the other hand are not regulated, they continue dividing indefinitely.
Using the gas pedal analogy, for the proto oncogenes,it will be GO, GO, GO, STOP. For the oncogenes, it will be GO GO GO GO GO GO [The 'GO' continues indefinitely].

During the synthesis of messenger RNA (mRNA) from DNA, how many strands of DNA are copied to produce a single strand of mRNA

Woah this is middle school biology? I'm a college biochemistry major and this is something we only introduce at the end of the first semester. How wild???

Anyways, I believe that one of the two strands of the DNA helix is needed for mRNA to replicate the genetic code with DNA primerase. Other techniques require multiple strands but the transcription process only needs one so the answer is D. :)
