The difference between the present reservoir, with its silent sterile shores and debris-choked side canyons, and the original Gl
Anna [14]

Answer:

"debris-choked".

Explanation:

In the given passage, the speaker/ author presents the difference between the Glen Canyon and Lake Powell. This contrasting image/ description is made in such a way that the difference is felt and projects a drastic image.

The comparison of these reservoirs is so drastic that the author uses life and death to compare it. While <em>"Glen Canyon was alive. Lake Powell is a graveyard." </em>And the one phrase that best contributes to the author's sad tone is<em> "debris-choked",</em> which presents an image of a place that is dying, or on the verge of death.

Read the following passage: This time, Jacob was in charge of picking teams for baseball at recess. He knew Sara was the best ba
nlexa [21]

Answer:

You have not offered any choices, so therefore, I will elaborate on what you have written.

Based on the idea that he was picking teams means something in the hierarchy of recess.  I am guessing that he is in about the 5th or 6th grade, and would be embarrassed if he chose a girl first instead of his friends.  At this age and at this stage in his development, having boys on his team is much more important than having a girl.  Would this mean that he likes her?  Does he just want her for her talent of being the best batter?  His relationships with his peers that are boys are much more important to him at this time of his life.  I perceive that when he did pick a couple of boys, they agreed TOGETHER that they should get the best batter.  This way it was in the best efforts of the TEAM and not that a boy was picking a girl.

What theme is developed in the poem bush medicine by konai helu thaman
skad [1K]

A theme that is developed in the poem "Bush Medicine," by Konai Hely Thaman is the following:

- The poem develops the theme of respect and acceptance of old traditions and practical knowledge.

<h3>What is theme?</h3>
  • First, we need to understand that theme is the message underlying a literary work, the idea an author wishes to transmit to readers.

<h3>What is the idea in "Bush Medicine"?</h3>
  • In "Bush Medicine," Tongan author Konai Hely Thaman talks about her grandmother, who was a healer.
  • She used her knowledge of plants to heal the women who came to her in order to treat their ailments.
  • Thaman's grandmother would chew leaves to release their juices, which she would apply to the sores of the women.
  • Thaman mentions "wise men," the doctors of modern medicine, who say "there might be something / to my grandmother's cure." She says she hopes one day they will be sure, like her grandmother was.
  • Her grandmother was not a doctor, but she knew what she was doing. She had practical knowledge that a certain plant would treat a certain sore. That is more than the knowledge many modern doctors have.
  • The women in their village respected the tradition of going to a healer, also sure that they would be properly treated.

  • With that in mind, we can say the poem develops the theme of respect for old knowledge and traditions.
