It provided affordable electricity for isolated rural areas. What problems did students and other young people face? They were unemployed (didn't have jobs), they were poor (poverty), they felt hopeless and had loss of dignity (did not respect themselves) and didn't have spending $$.

For those owning plantations, it made great wealth possible.
It set up a class system.
Even people with small farms seemed to have been able to afford 1 slave, so the south had economic reasons for engaging in the civil war. There were 69000 farms in the south when the war broke out. Each had at least 1 slave so they were very dependent on that labor.
There are several characteristics that are common to totalitarian regimes, including: Rule by a single party. Total control of the military. Total control over means of communication (such as newspapers, propaganda, etc…)
They believe that governments should meddle into things like economy to improve the lifestyle of others. Socialists usually claim that it is necessary for a government to intervene and deal with businesses and the economy because that ensures that there's equal rights for all people and people are protected from exploitation and monopolies and similar things.
