The correct answer is D) To protect against an aggressive Soviet Union in Europe.

After World War II, the United States developed a policy of containment. This foreign policy was focused on stopping the spread of communism all over the world. To do this, the United States helped in creating the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). This organization would be made up of several different American allies (like France, Britain, Denmark, etc.) who would support each other militarily if the Soviet Union were to invade any of their countries.

Which factor contributed to the massive loss of human lives during World War I?
erica [24]

Answer: b. New weaponry and technology did not address the stalemate of trench warfare, prolonging the war and leading to the massive loss of human lives.

World War I introduced many modern warfares which include airplanes, tanks, trench warfares and other weapons. Along the western front, most of the war was fought using trench warfare. Both sides dug long lines of trenches to protect the soldiers from gunfires and the area between the trenches was called No Man's Land. Trench warfares prolonged the war which led to the loss of millions of soldiers.
