What was the main reason for the Armenian genocide?
Sergio [31]

Answer:

Christian Armenians would not convert to the Muslim religion of the Ottoman Empire

Explanation:

The Armenian genocide had several reasons in the background as to why it happened, and one of those reasons was the religion. The Armenians were Christians, and it was what was keeping their identity strong during the long occupation of the Ottoman Empire. The Ottomans though, at this period of time, wanted to have a country where everyone would declare themselves as Turkish, and would also be Sunni Muslim, with the purpose of this being to have a unified nation and avoid further partition of the empire. The Armenians did not wanted to give up on their ethnicity, nor their religion. That angered the Ottoman authorities, and afraid that the Armenians might try and separate part of their territory, they started to systematically perform genocide on them, with the end result being over 1.5 million dead Armenians, and many more separated from their families and homes forever.
