One of the most prominent stories about Vanderbilt University is its name change in 1877 to Vanderbilt University. This name change was because Bishop Holland Nimmons McTyeire (one of the founders of the university) convinced the billionaire Cornelius Vanderbilt to donate to the academic center to fix the damages left by the civil war and thus strengthen the union of the country. Cornelius agreed to grant this financial aid and donated a million dollars, later the name of the university was changed to Vanderbilt University.
